This year was the first time I heard the term "brix" used to describe the sugar content of tomatoes. Brix is a measurement of the sugar content in fruits and usually used in the winemaking industry.
Fresh raw tomatoes typically range from 3.5 to 8.5 Brix; this tomato, Prairie Fire is touted to have a brix level of 9, making it remarkably sweet. This is a productive vine that needs support as the branches get heavy as the become laden with fruit. I pruned the lower leaves of the plant and kept the middle of the plant open and airy. The small clusters of fruit are beautiful, as their stripes do resemble a wildfire. Thank you Justine for giving me this plant to try!

Interesting!
Those stripes sure look stunning !
Beautiful tomatoes Gia! It's a new variety for me but they are definitely pretty!
I work in commercial ag in Washington and we use brix very commonly in apple and cherry production as well :) It's awesome seeing it applied to tomatoes though!
